I am doing a Masters and I am finding it hard to motivate myself to do projects! Help?
I just started a masters in information systems and i have a lot of projects to do. has anyone got god tips to help me motivate myself to start working on them? I'm finding it really really hard to get going? The projects are group porjects and individual. They are mainly to do with IT subjects. Most of them are reports and presentations

What are the projects like? I can give you an answer based on the particular type of projects.

Ugh, I have the same problem sometimes. I know I should be doing my research, but It takes me ages to get going sometimes. I love my subject, but sometimes doing nothing is far more appealing. Everyone has this problem to some degree, but getting over it is easier said than done. Set yourself some time goals, and try your hardest to reach them before your personal deadline. Also, put work before pleasure. A night of drinking with friends may sound fun, but knowing your up to date with your work (and that you won't have professors breathing down your neck) is far better. Trust me. Anyway, I hope this helped! Good luck with your project!

Have been through that phase in life. Try making each project interesting by giving real life examples and scenarios. IT project reports and documentation generally tend to be boring, especially so, if you are in London and stuck with the gloomy weather for days together. But good thing about IT projects is that you can always relate to some real life scenarios and its fun that way. You will get to appreciate the larger picture and how your IT systems fit in with a business model. Also, try organising some fun outings for project discussions with the team....my experience is that IT guys get their cranky ideas from pizza and coke ;) Enjoy your projects.... Cheers, Harsha harsha7kp@yahoo.com PS: mail me some snippets about your project and probably I can help.

Dream Gis. you will grow naturally. Once you love it, you will have more interests in it and everything will follow naturally. (b) Try using these free-GIS tools to get used to the terms and etc http://freegis.org/ The type of software you will need to learn perhaps is better determined when you are in GIS college. You will definitely need to learn ESRI as this software is used by major GIS companies. Also learn to use IDRISI. Don't worry if you do not have the budget now, just check out the free software listed above. That should get you used to some features of GIS software. By the time you have some sort of degree, you will already have had a chance to work with these software which would be offered in your University, etc. (c) You should read not only GIS books but also maths and science books as they too are related to your subject. Here are some good books to start reading now GIS.. c1. An Introduction to Geographical Information Systems, and also the "Thinking About GIS by Roger Tomlinson" c2. How maps works c3. Principles of Geographic Information Systems by P.A. Burrough c4. Introduction to Physical Geography and the Environment by Joseph Holden c5. GIS Fundamentals by P.A. Burrough There is no rule to which books you should read. You could pick any books that is related to your subject until your university/college tells you to read specific books as part of their curriculum program. You might also enjoy reading GIS magazines, try the magazine Geoinformatics. You could also consider magazine printed in your own country as a good economical option. (d) Yes you do (e) Yes, there are lots of jobs in this field. But be good at it, there will be lots of jobs as well as lots of candidates!! |

How's the Master of Liberal Arts in Information Technology from Harvard Extension School?
I need some information and feedback on Master of Liberal Arts in Information Technology from Harvard University Extension School. Any insights on the overall experience, does the text Master of Liberal Arts in Extension studies with concentration in Information Technology viewed by HR and prospective employers? How does that compare with other continuing schools and programs around Boston like the Brandeis University MS in IT Management and the Boston University's M.S in Computer Information Systems. ALM in IT from Harvard Extension School vs MS in IT and M.S in CIS, the name Harvard is indeed something to recon with but not the text on the diploma. Any insights on this?

Boston-area employers don't view an HES degree as the same as a Harvard degree. If the only reason why you're looking at this program is because of the Harvard name, then look elsewhere. In addition, a master in liberal arts... I'm not loving that type of degree re: employment prospects. It's not the same as a masters in IT, a masters in CIS, etc. It's less focused. Employers in your field prefer the focus. BU has a very good rep in the IT field. Brandeis does as well. I also know that Northeastern and WPI (which has a campus on 128) both have respected masters IT-related degrees.

It is impossible to know whether you will receive a scholarship but the best school for computer science is MIT. Most universities offer low paid on campus work to master's students. See what score you get on the GRE. If the combo of GRE and GPA are comfortably above the university's minimum, you should stand a chance, especially from Nepal. Request financial aid on your application.

I earned my bachelors degree from he University of Phoenix four years ago, and am currently enrolled in their MBA program. My experience at UOP has been excellent. I have not encountered any negative feedback on earning a degree online.

I received my Masters of Nursing from UOP. My supervisors were supportive of me going to school and liked that I wasn't taking off work to go to traditional classes. Also many of my work projects I would have been doing anyway, I was able to use for school projects also, killed two birds with one stone so to speak. Within two months of graduating I had two new job offers. I was even on a phone interview in less than an hour of commencement, I was still in my regalia even.

What is your business? You can hire an accounting firm! A couple of classes in "general business" and maybe the intro Accounting class would be helpful. But depending on "your business" you don't need a degree! ! ! For example if your opening a retail store you just need to know general accounting principals and DON'T need an accounting degree!

I have used Quick books simple start and it's perfect so far, Tech support sucks but the product is easy, I can easily fill out my tax returns using the "profit and loss" page.

i know it would make it easier to get a job with a master degree. as for the raise it depend on the company that you work for. if it a major corporation than expect a big raise but if it one of those small private own company, than i guess it not much of a difference. hey the more education you have the better you off. I'm for higher learning...
2
That is a little difficult to say. Personally, I think one's pay should depend on their contribution to the organization. Is your Master's degree going to add to your benefits to the organization? If not then no additional compensation would be called for. If in the future you however become more of an asset, then at that time you certainly should receive greater compensation. Please, I do not mean any offence by this statement that i am about to make. I had a programmer on my team who graduated with a BS in information technology, that did not possess 1/100 of the abilities of another on my team that did not have a college degree. Which do you think should have received the higher compensation?

I'm thinking about double majoring in information system & operation management and marketing. Is it a good idea to have a bachelor for each of my major or should I focus on one major and get a master degree? For the master it would be information system and operation management. It's really up to you. Talk to advisors in your department(s) and see what they advise for your circumstances, given their knowledge of the two programs at your university. It's difficult to say whether a double major or a master's is quantifiably "better." They're different sets of degrees. Technically the masters degree is more advanced but it may not be the best path for you if you want to go to law school. That's why I suggest talking with one of your departmental advisors who is paid by your university to give advice on these subjects. People out on yahoo can really only tell you so much (and who knows their authority to dispense advice!). It's your life, it's important - I'd go to an expert!

I want to get my master's degree in IT at an online school? What school and/or program, do you suggest
I want to get my master's degree in IT at an online school? What school and/or program, do you suggest?
Hi...I have a B.A. in Psychology that I attained from Oral Roberts University in 2003. I have been working in the field of social services for the last 6 years. I do not want to further my education in anything related to social services (i.e. counseling, therapist, etc). I would like to pursue a Master's in something under the umbrella of IT. I also am looking to go online for school as I work full time and I just don't want to have to go to a traditional school if I don't have to. I have done a semester online at ITT Tech a couple of years ago and enjoyed the online experience. I was working on an Associate's in Computer Forensics. I actually am highly fascinated with this field so I would like to pursue it at the graduate level. In the master's arena, it is not usually called Computer Forensics however. I also am interested in learning how to program different applications on the computer. What program would encompass computer security AND computer programming (software engineering)? I have been debating between a few online colleges: (1)Kaplan (which has a Master of Science in Information Technology with a concentration in Information Security and Assurance). (2)University of Phoenix has a Master of Information Systems. This one is kind of broad but does have courses in information security and computer programming. (3) Virginia College has a Master of Science in Cybersecurity. This one is very specific and no computer programming courses. (4) Keller Graduate School of Management has a Master of Information Systems Management with a concentration in Information Security. Lastly, (5) AIU has a Master of Information Technology with a concentration in Internet security. Now, these are just the colleges that I have researched and I have spoken with the academic advisors and am considering attending (I've actually researched a few more but for whatever reason, I eliminated them). Out of the 5 online schools that I mentioned, are there any that you would personally not consider and why?? I have heard good stories and I have heard horror stories. All 5 of the schools I mentioned are accredited. Can you offer any other colleges or programs for that matter that may be a better fit that I can look into based off of the information that I have given you about myself?? I know I've written a lot of information. I just feel like the academic advisors at these specific schools are biased and I would love an unbiased point of view Also, let me add this one last thing as a sidenote, I used to work with therapists as the case worker for sexually abused children. Our agency worked alongside the police department, sheriff's department, district attorney's office, etc., etc. This is when I really became involved in computer forensics, because I would love to know how to go into a suspect's computer and recover lost data that they think they erased (i.e. a pedophile with child pornography) and that is what the degree should provide for me. And as I said earlier, I would also like to know how to actually program applications or software on the computer that can be used in that field or even in other unrelated fields. Please help...I am trying to make a decision by the end of the year with hopes of starting school in early 2010. I know I've said a lot and have written a book but this is actually the narrowed down version since I first started this process.... Thank you for your input..."

All of the schools you mention are worthless. Their degrees are worthless. You will be laughed-at if you try to get a job with one of these degrees. It's hard to advise you. You clearly are romantically involved with this bogus concept of "cyber IT" and you're not going to be talked out of it. If you were to do it right, you would get a flexible Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering Technology.
2
Here is what I am concerned about that I am sure will make it difficult for you to find a job. Your undergraduate degree is not related to the IT career field. If you did attend an online graduate program, you will have practicaly no hands-on experience with computers and networks, except for maybe your own personal computer at home. When you are competing for jobs with others who have IT graduate degrees from schools that required attendance and have the practical hands-on experience with different types of computers and networks, guess who will get hired first? When I was studying Information Systems and Computer Programming, about half of the time I spent at school was in the computer labs getting very important hands-on experience with different types of equipment. Being familiar with equipment that is being used by businesses will help you get hired much quicker. Even when I was studying engineering, my labs allowed me to become familiar with and use expensive equipment that I would never have access to by studying online. When I obtained my second college degree, I did it attending school part-time while working full-time. You can do this also. You expressed an interest in computer forensics. Why not study to get certified as a CHFI (Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator)? http://www.ucertify.com/certifications/EC-Council/chfi.html

Go for Management Information System It covers the management side of IT with a strong leaning toward databases & systems administration.

Does a master's degree have much bearing on law school admissions
Does a master's degree have much bearing on law school admissions?
I have an undergrad in Econ with 2.9 (3.55 in-major) and a Masters in Managment Information Systems with a 3.1GPA. I worked full time through both degrees, and have a ton of solid corporate and government experience for my age (25). I'm looking at some Tier 3 law schools like WVU, Akron, Syracuse, etc. Pretty much all of the average GPAs and 25%ile GPAs are higher than mine. Kinda worried b/c this is what I really want to do.

Yes, my son-in-law is in his 2nd year of law school and it was much easier in getting admitted with his Master's Degree. Good luck to you! You can do it!!! Stick with it!!!!!
2
HAve you taken the LSATs? Your Master's is very helpful and looks good on your transcripts. Just get a study guide for the LSAT and then take the entrance exam. Talk with a counselor at the college and ask them, that is why they are there. Good Luck!
3
what do you mean tons of experience? 25 years??? The most that you can get a solid 4 years experience... which is nothing... well seeing your GPA, I would be worried... First screening - GPA... You should at least have a 3.3 GPA 3.1 GPA for master course/degree is just like close to failing...
4
You'll get in to WVU. ;-) (I did my undergrad there, wish I could afford law school.)

Masters degree (Management information systems) with database concentration
Masters degree (Management information systems) with database concentration?
Hi, I have a bachelors degree in business degree but want to get Ms degree in MIS with database concentration. I am an international student and am looking for school in New York or New Jersey area. The cost should not be higher then $6000 per semester for 12 credits at the college that will be of interest. Other important factor to consider is accreditation of the college. Also, are international students allowed to enroll in online classes ? I know one college in NY,TOURO COLLEGE, that has pretty good MIS degree, but I dont think this college degree would even get me an interview after graduation. I know some colleges entirely offer degrees through online classes.Hope to hear from you guys. PS.I know most colleges have outdated, old curriculum for computer science or Mis degrees. Thanks

Well, what you pay is what you get (+ or -).. So don't expect a lot when you've limited budget and quite sctrict spec. MIS of for that matter any graduate course, doesnt focus on one subject matter but a 'general' study. if you want database concentration the best would be to go for industry certification (e.g. Oracle DBA etc)
2
If I understand you correctly, you need to maintain your F-1 status as well as getting a Masters. You won't get F-1 status for on line study obviously so I wonder if I have this wrong. Cheap schools in the NY/NJ area that have reasonable Masters programmes in this area are NYIT, Rutgers and CUNY. City College has just launched a new MIS course (registration open till the end of May) with a good database component but unfortunately the classes are in the evenings so it is not F-1 eligible. You might want to see if there is a work around as it is in your price range.

What starting jobs are there for someone with Masters in health information systems management and HIPAA
What starting jobs are there for someone with Masters in health information systems management and HIPAA?
I feel like I'm shooting in the dark. I can tel you what I don't want to be doing - coding, clinical point of care, or data entry. I need technical jobs that are management related. New to the field. My degree is like a "nurse's MBA". I have MBA's and nurses among all of my classes. I really need to be in a technical style job as in digitizing health files. managing health systems, or putting medical records online and such. Also when applying for jobs, should I follow the health industry appearance trends, or the IT ones? Do I have to have the appearance of a nurse when I go to interviews just to work IT inside a hospital? my health info expertise is in HIPAA, and its compliance, safeguards, management and software applications. (think medical record systems) Still working on my program, and might take a latin terms class at the local community college to help me out, but I am being pushed by some to do another degree program in HIT (an "associates" this time, and would take up another 2+ yrs before I could get a job) but I really don't think I need all of the 69 expensive credit hours worth of classes to prove I can do it. I hear what you're saying though. I am pretty versed in the terms even though I don't have a class in it. What I don't know yet is ICD-9 but 10 is coming in soon anyway.

When going for an interview I would recommend you wear standard business attire which would be appropriate for a nurse or IT person, such as a suit. I believe when you apply you need to emphasize your background in the medical field AND as an IT person. I teach medical billing and coding. Now I know you don't want to do that. However, I know that it can be tough to find an IT person who has the medical knowledge to understand what is going on with EMR and managing health systems. I've worked with a number of different software programs for different medical offices as well as billing and coding programs. I have found that many people who design software programs are very nice people and may know about programming computers. However, most of them do not have any kind of medical or billing background and so their products are not user friendly. So in your resume and cover letter emphasize that you know BOTH and I believe that will help you get interviews. And your background in both will ultimately be more important than whether you dress as an IT person or RN. One of the students I just graduated has an IT background. She was an incredible help in the classroom and will be an asset in an office because she was able to figure a way to work around glitches in the program. Some of the programming is not good for reasons I mentioned before. Hope this helps you.

I'm an RN with a Masters and I work in the IT dept of a medical center. You need to dress like you're working in a business envirinment. Regular business clothes. If you're not doing patient care you don't need scrubs.

Should I get a Masters of Science in Information Systems? It's a 1 year program after college for me
Should I get a Masters of Science in Information Systems? It's a 1 year program after college for me.?
I am a Management and Computer Information Systems major. My school is apparently 1 of 3 in the US that offers a MSIS (Masters of Science in Information Systems). Should I apply? It will put me about $20k in the hole but supposedly I will gain $15k on my annual salary. The ROI sounds worth it, but do I really need this? Also, what kind of job can I expect? I am looking for a Management job, not a computer programming job or anything where I sit in front of a computer. I think the IS background would be very useful, though...perhaps some sort of project management job involving IS. There is something unique about the program that isn't offered very many places...perhaps the 1 year part? Either way, I appreciate any advice.

The MS IS is offer in more than three places. Around DC there are five schools offering it. I got mine in 2001. It is a good degree and in the right areas can yield significant salary increases. Never become complacent in your career unless you like the unemployment line.

It depends on what you want to do when you grow up. Do you want to be a computer specialist or do you want to work in industrial engineering? There are many sub specialities in Industrial Engineering, perhaps you will find your niche within one of those. Check out the curricula at various universities to determine the specialities. For example, www.mie.utoronto.ca/courses/undergrad.html

I hold a MS in IS and IT, and I have to say that the industry has been great to me over the past 30+ years. The skills that the students of today bring to the industry and the world is fascinating. You are bringing my generations dreams to us all. I can only best advise you to follow YOUR dream whatever it may be, either way you are a winner, and the world is better because you got your education. And if you don't like your first discipline, the second one is easier to get. Good Luck!

Unfortunately I cannot name all of the schools, but I would like to try to help. Perhaps finding the different terms that you mention and looking those up would help, or you could call one of the universities you listed and talk to someone in that department about it. Most people there would be willing to help you find a school that is right for you without necessarily thinking of it as "competition."

I want to get a head start. What should I know about Computer Information Systems-management
I want to get a head start. What should I know about Computer Information Systems-management?
I decided to withdraw from graduate school(I was taking up Guidance and counseling) and pursue what I really wanted- Computer Information Systems-management. I am now looking to pursue my Master's in CIS-management but my BA was in Sociology. What skills or computer programs should I know? I have great computer skills but don't know any C++ or Oracle, or any of the advanced computer skills. How should I prepare for this career? Also, I am looking to take the courses online. I'm looking at the University of Phoneix, they have a campus in my city but also offer online courses.

MIS (Management Information Systems) is similar to an MBA, but specifically deals with running the computer side of internal operations. Tech experience is good for the position, the best thing you could do is after a year in the program start looking for a Computer Operations or Network Operations Center position. This will get you inside a company and get you some hands on tech experience so that when you finish the degree you at least have an understanding of what being a tech is like. Overall though, it's a specialized management degree, which is the way the buisness world is tending to these days as they've realized an MBA means next to nothing when they aren't in a "traditional" department like sales or HR.

the best thing you can go for is Oracle..(SQL , SQL PLUS , DBA or Apps)...there are plenty of sites that can help you get shaped for future..and also Oracle is good in DB side.. try the below site for these complete set of resources that can help you to learn them free online and also help you for certification

Ok for real. Is a masters in information systems worth it? I mean really?
So I'm considering getting a masters in accounting or a masters in information systems. Making a complete change from a BA in Political Science. I would like to do both but there is no dual program at the school I want to go to and its super expensive anyway. I keep getting mixed reviews about these questions. (1) Which has the potential to make more money (2) Most importantly- which help get me a JOB after graduation (hopefully before, haha). But I need a REAL CAREER. (Sorry a lot of frustration these last couple of months) (I feel that even after finishing my study in Info Systems I still have to get certs before I can even begin to interview for jobs) My Goal is to work for PwC or Booz Allen Hamilton. No matter which I choose.

Either degree would be an excellent choice, and will help you get a career after school. I think that graduating with the MIS degree will get your more money immediately (a higher starting salary after grad school), but the MAcc degree has a higher potential salary. Either way, you could work for a company like PwC or Booz Allen Hamilton - they both have large consulting/assurance/internal auditing departments for the Information Systems degree and deal with acquisitions for the MAcc degree.

Most colleges have Intern programs that let you get your foot in the door of Good Companies even before you graduate...Got to the College you graduated from and see if they have some leads to getting you into a company...Either that or Network...meaning who do you know that's already working one of these jobs? Do they know anybody that could put in a good word for you so that your application will be picked out of the rest??? See where I'm going with this...

In starting don't look for money. Whatever job u'll get do that. You can enter as trainee . there are multiple jobs for such. Do hardwork until u got the job. Don't loose your heart. best of luck vijay

There is nothing like this is better or this is bad. Both are equally good and u need to choose what you want to learn. Both of them have good job opportunities. First look into the course structure and round up on the subjects that you are interested in. Check whether that course offers those subjects. Based on the specialization u choose while studying that course, you will land up in different job openings.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career. More details and links to relevant websites available at http://7ys.info/

Yes I think it is a total waste of money and time to obtain a master of Science information degree if there is no work experience. Plus online degrees do not work most of the times.
2
In certain fields, it is better to gain experience before obtaining a Master's degree. I believe Information Systems is one of those. However, just because it is better, doesn't mean it is necessary. Is it a waste of money? If you are paying $30,000 for a 36 semester hour Master's degree, you are wasting money. Let me guess, University of Phoenix or DeVry or possibly Kaplan. Go to University of Illinois. http://www.online.uillinois.edu/catalog/ProgramDetail.asp?ProgramID=438 Tuition is $217.75 per quarter credit hour. Total tuition is about $13,000. They only enroll 12 graduate students each fall, so competition is tight. If that doesn't work, try Dakota State University. Their program is only 30 credit hours at $252.45 per semester credit hour. Total: $7,573.50 Good luck

Can I get a Masters in Information Systems Management
Can I get a Masters in Information Systems Management?
I am trying to transfer into this program, and they are considering my request, but I am en economics undergrad major and so I worry whether I will be able to handle the coursework. I have looked at the curriculum, and the courses seem to be mostly learning about databasing, some object-based programming, and learning to use Oracle... It's all challenging, but it's not rocket science... So, do you think I can handle it? My real question is... If I'm learning how to use Oracle, and this is a TOP Master's program in this field, then what exactly are undergraduate informations systems majors learning? I mean... it almost seems like, looking at the coursework, that I CAN handle the Masters... But I am wondering why that is so. How is it that I have only taken one programming course, and feel I can handle this Masters? Is a Masters in Information Systems Management more of a business/technology fusion, but NOT really a super technical major? *Any* input on this would help, because I need to make my decision. Thank you!

A degree in MIS is more of a merging of the business and the technical. Many MIS graduates go on to become Data Analysts. An MIS major is usually not the Database Administrator responsible for the technical administration of a system - you want a Computer Science graduate for that. An MIS major is more often the "Super-User" embedded in the business unit. They set data standards for their area, make sure that the system is configured properly for the needs of the business unit, etc. They should be able to write complex reports using Crystal/SQL, etc., but not typically anything more "hardcore" than that. So, it is a technical degree, but not technical enough that you'd find yourself qualified to work in an IT shop as a developer, engineer, or dba. And, yes, if you are a UG Economics major (economics would seem to indicate that you are decent at math?) who is technically-minded, you should be able to handle it. Good luck!!

What is more profitable and a better choice overall? A MBA or a Master of Science in Information Systems
What is more profitable and a better choice overall? A MBA or a Master of Science in Information Systems ?
I was a Psychology major and obviously, the job market has proven to be extremely challenging and not very profitable after my undergraduate studies. I plan to go to Business School sometime in the future, but I would want to go to an accredited and reputable top business program. Nevertheless, I have also chosen right now to continue to a Master's program in order to have a better GPA than my undergrad as well as earn work experience. The university at which I am doing this has an MBA program but is not a top ranked at all. Should I do my Master's in Information Systems for right now and then later give it a shot for an MBA when I can have a chance to a top school or just go ahead and do the MBA at this "ok" university?

An MBA from a ranked school will do more for you than an MS in information systems. However, the MS will do more for you than an MBA from a school that does not have a ranked MBA program. In my opinion, an MBA from a school that is not ranked does little more for you than a BS in business.
2
Computers and electronics are growing by leaps and bounds. Go with the Information Systems for now and you can work on the MBA at nights or online.
3
All told, the MBA will net you an exact total of $129,874.67 more than the MS in IT. Kidding. Don't just go to school for whatever you think will net you more dollars. Do you really want to go into business or are you interested in IT. Make your decision based on that. Also, the argument that only the top 10-25 ranked business programs being 'worth going to'. That would mean that all of the rest of the B-school programs in the US, of which most schools which have a graduate program have one, are a waste of time. So hundreds of thousands of graduates of MBA programs have all completely wasted their time and money? A top ranked MBA may help you get a job with an elitist high paying firm, but an MBA itself is an educational degree just like everything else. Don't buy into all of the Ivy or bust hype...

Real world experience is MUCH more important than an MIS MBA. I've been in tech for about 7 years and have been up to director level in my career path...I have an MIS B.S. but no MBA. It really depends on what you want to do with it. I work as an IT Analyst (Systems and Business) but have no desire to work as a large scale project manager or consultant to them...I like my 40 hour weeks! If you DO want to get into a high profile, high stress, suit and tie kind of IT job...go for the MBA. It'll pay for itself in a year or two. But buy stock in your favorite antacid company. :) Good luck!

Depends on where you plan to work. In Silicon Valley you demonstrate your technical prowess on the job and you'll advance. Noone talks about masters degree in IS around these parts. The trick is getting in the door. Seems like most get in with a specific skill - like programming, data communications (Cisco CCIE) or MSCE or just come in with skills in Unix learned by late nights of practice.

Unfortunately, most are fairly expensive but you should check out Walden University Online, Capella University, Keller Graduate School of Management, Ashford University, Jones International University, Jones International University, and Western Governors University. Make sure that whoever you choose, that they are accredited by a government recognized accrediting commission. At http://distancelearningdegree.com has info on those commissions.

3
You can easily compare info about these schools in this site - schools.iblogger.org

"Cheap" is probably not going to be an option for an online MS-IS. CTU Online offers an online MS in Enterprise Information Systems and an MS in Information Systems Security.

IT consulting. Programming. Teacher of IS/IT at a community college. While this may not be the hayday it once was, there are still plenty of IT jobs to be had. Salary? Depends on where you are. In a major city, like NY, DC, or SF, you should expect a starting salary of $40-$60K. If you're good, you might be able to command $100K-$150K in a couple of years. Hint: If you don't know this information already, going for that degree isn't a good idea.

I'd recommend Penn State, actually.
2
If it's Bellevue University in Nebraska, I'd have to recommend against it. I live in the Omaha/Bellevue area, and I know Bellevue isn't a very reputable program compared to the others you listed. University of Nebraska-Omaha does have a Masters in Management Information Systems. (not sure that's the same program you're looking for.) They may be a bit more credible than Bellevue, if you're looking for programs in this region, but again, probably not as credible as some of those others. UNOmaha's website is http://www.unomaha.edu
3
West Virginia University is great! But not a option 4 you. If I were you I'd do some research on these universities. However, I've heard good thing about Boston. Good Luck!
4
Out of all of the colleges that you listed I would say that the University of Illinois, University of Maryland and Boston University are the most reputable. My top choice would be Boston University because it is a GREAT town with a lot of young people from all over the United States. There are a LOT of universities in the Boston area (MIT, Harvard, Boston College). The University of Maryland is near Baltimore, MD (the capitol of Maryland) and a little over an hour from Washington DC. Marist College is over an hour away from New York City but it's in the middle of nowhere.
5
Information Systems Management is in Boston University's School of Management, which is one of the best business schools in the nation. I am an undergrad at BU and I love it there. Everyone works really hard and the atmosphere is amazing.

The University of Maryland is near Baltimore, MD (the capitol of Maryland) and a little over an hour from Washington DC. Marist College is over an hour away from New York City but it's in the middle of nowhere.

Information Systems Management is in Boston University's School of Management, which is one of the best business schools in the nation. I am an undergrad at BU and I love it there. Everyone works really hard and the atmosphere is amazing.

Masters Information Systems or MBA
Masters Information Systems or MBA??
I need some advice. I soon will be completing my Bachelors of Information Technology and plan on going for my Masters degree. My school offers both Masters Information Systems and MBA programs. The MIS program is about ten classes where as the MBA program is 15. Which major should I go for? Which would give me a better chance of finding a well paying job? Any ideas???

IMO, you could go either way for a degree with high paying results. An MIS degree will give you a bit of a competitive advantage over an MBA, because MBA's are like @ssh_oles, everyone has one. Of course, an MBA will give you a more rounded business education, and open a few more doors in terms of employment opportunities. It will really depend upon where you want to take your career. How about an MBA in IS, to really complicate things? I'm sure that these degrees exist. After all, you will have to declare a major for your MBA. I was a bit shocked when I had to declare a major for my MBA.

What benefits me to apply for the Navy Military Reserves with a Masters degree in Information Systems
What benefits me to apply for the Navy Military Reserves with a Masters degree in Information Systems?
I want to join the Navy Military Reserves (not active Duty), after I finish my Masters Degree. Will I be entering with a higher rank? What are the benefits of applying for the Navy Military Reserves with a Masters degree in Information Systems? Is it worth it?

you'll enter as a officer...work behind a desk (with your degree) but with some travel to help out where needed and make money to pay back school loans,,,but the most valuable thing you'll gain besides serving your country is experience and responsibly that a recent grad would never get right out of college, and if there is something new or "cutting field" in your area of expertise the military usually get the first look

It's called "U.S. Naval Reserve" You'd likely get a commission as an Ensign, if not, then you'd come in at a higher enlisted paygrade. Your degree might work well for the rating Information Systems Technician, or it will enable you if you take a commission to work in a technical field. From what I understand people with a CS/IT background qualify for the DCO program.

Masters in Statistics vs Masters in Information Systems
Masters in Statistics vs Masters in Information Systems?
I am struggling to make a choice between these two masters degrees. I am equally interested in both. So, what do you suggest as a better option in terms of job opportunities and pay scale?

Information systems for sure will pay more and have better promotional prospects. Part of the reason for that is the IT industry generally requires constant upgrading of skills and this does not attract people that want to coast - which basically most people seem to want to do these days. That is why IT pay is good and promotion prospect better - down goes the supply so up goes what you need to pay to get people. If that is you then statistics would be better. Thanks Bill

That major has to do with the management of a computer system or division and does not deal with specific software at all. If you want to learn specific software then it is best to study computer science.
2
Yes I will think that it could lead to System Administrator
